1. Light
High light requirement: Vandas love bright, filtered sunlight. Ideal conditions are 70–80% sunlight.
Indoors: Use south or east-facing windows or grow lights (12–14 hrs/day).
Outdoors: Protect from direct midday sun to avoid leaf burn.
2. Temperature
Warm-growing orchids: Ideal range is 65–95°F (18–35°C).
They don’t tolerate cold well; bring indoors if it drops below 55°F (13°C).
3. Humidity
Prefer 60–80% humidity.
Use humidifiers, misting, or place pots over water trays with pebbles (not touching the water) to increase local humidity.
4. Watering
Vandas have aerial roots and are usually grown in baskets or mounted with no media.
Water daily in warm weather; reduce in cooler months.
Allow roots to dry out slightly between waterings.
Best to water in the morning to allow drying before night.
5. Air Circulation
Crucial to prevent fungal infections.
Use fans if growing indoors or ensure natural airflow in greenhouses.
6. Fertilizing
Feed weekly, weakly: Diluted orchid fertilizer (20-20-20 or similar).
Alternate with a bloom booster (high phosphorus) every few weeks during the flowering season.
7. Potting & Mounting
Often grown bare-root in wooden baskets or mounted to allow airflow to roots.
If potted, use very coarse bark or charcoal; avoid fine potting mixes.
8. Repotting
Only when necessary (e.g., plant outgrows basket or material deteriorates).
Best done in spring or early summer.
9. Flowering
Vandas can bloom multiple times a year with proper care.
Flowers last 2–4 weeks, depending on species and hybrid.
